A Mercury Wetted Reed Sensor, also known as a mercury switch or mercury tilt switch, is an electrical switch that uses the conductive properties of mercury to control the flow of current. It consists of a sealed glass tube containing a small amount of mercury and two or more metal contacts.

The switch operates based on the principle of the free surface of mercury completing an electrical circuit between the metal contacts. When the switch is tilted or rotated, the mercury moves within the tube and bridges the contacts, allowing current to flow. When the switch is in a different position, the mercury withdraws from the contacts, breaking the circuit and stopping the flow of current.
