Synopsis
N-TOPCon is a tunneling oxide passivation contact solar cell technology based on the principle of selective carriers. Its cell structure is an N-type silicon substrate cell. A layer of ultra-thin silicon oxide is prepared on the back of the cell, and then deposited. A layer of doped silicon thin layer, the two together form a passivation contact structure, which effectively reduces surface recombination and metal contact recombination. Compared with P-type crystalline silicon cells, N-type crystalline silicon cells have higher minority carrier lifetime, no light-induced attenuation, good low-light effect, and small temperature coefficient.
Global N-TOPCon Cells market is projected to reach US$ 24520 million in 2029, increasing from US$ 7854.7 million in 2022, with the CAGR of 19.2% during the period of 2023 to 2029. With the advantages of cost reduction and efficiency increase, TOPCon technology has achieved rapid growth in volume in a short period of time. Cell development is an iterative process. In terms of power generation performance, n-type products have lower attenuation. From the perspective of technical parameters, n-type products perform better in terms of power output, and have lower temperature coefficients and lower attenuation rates. The data shows that n-type products can achieve a 3% improvement in power generation performance compared to p-type products, and have higher reliability. The International Technology Roadmap for Photovoltaics (ITRPV) predicts that the market share of N-type TOPCon (Tunnel Oxide Passivated Contact) technology will rise from about 10% in 2022 to 60% in 2033, becoming the mainstream silicon wafer type. The largest increase is expected to begin in 2024.
